In our rich diversity of cultures and languages, we seek to be open to God's spirit so that we might grow in the faith that makes us one and give witness to the presence of Christ in our daily. Holy Cross Parish, founded in , is an integral part of the Church Community of the Lower West Side of Buffalo. We are a multi-cultural parish, a foundation for everyone to come together for the greater good of the community. We seek to reflect unity in Christ and welcome people of .
Designed by the nineteenth century Irish-American ecclesiastical architect Patrick Keely, the Cathedral of the Holy Cross measures feet in length, 90 feet in width and feet in height. In , Bishop John Fitzpatrick began work on a new Cathedral realizing that the Catholic population outgrew its first cathedral on Franklin Street. The parish then passed into the capable hands of Fr. James Babcock and new chapters of growth began. Parish History , Part 3, Father James arrives. In November of , Father James Babcock arrived having been reassigned from Pastor of St. George Mel kite Parish in Sacramento to Holy Cross.
Today, the Cathedral of the Holy Cross is the mother church for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston and is the largest Roman Catholic church in New England. The building is feet long by feet wide at the transepts (90 feet at the nave and aisles), by feet high to the ridgepole. We, diverse members of Holy Cross Parish, seek to build God’s kingdom on earth. United in prayer, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and in communion with the Roman Catholic Church, we will serve, t each, and evangelize throughout the community. Using our time, talent and treasure, for the honor and glory of God, we strive to lead all to the everlasting light of Christ.
